Hi

I'm looking to purchase a DVR for a 4 camera CCTV home system. I would like the DVR to be capable of the following:-

My preferred option would be D1 resolution on all 4 channels at 25FPS (real time) or alternatively 12FPS on all 4 channels.

What reliable and good quality D1 DVR's would you recommend?

Also looking for four good quality outside and rustproof cameras with minimum 30 metres IR, what would you recommend?

Thanks in advance

I'm sure you will get replies from some of the guys on here with much more experience than me in the world of CCTV.
I have only installed a couple of systems, but following advise I found on here I avoided the cheaper models that are all over eBay and went for a Hikvision DVR with 2TB HDD (the viewing over the Internet was a bit tricky to set up, but with help from this forum I can now view from anywhere)
I used Qvis cameras 700/650 TVL with variable zoom.
Overall pretty pleased with the results.
But it's like most things, it all depends on your budget. I went for mid range and am happy with the quality and features I have got.
A mate of mine got a "system in a box" from one of the chains, and there is no comparison between the two, his picture quality / resolution / colour is for want of a better word "rubbish"

Thank you for the information, I'll take a look at the ones you have suggested. Any other advice would be appreciated.

Can you advise where you bought them from?

I live in the North West and got my gear from a company called CCTV Direct UK
They have a web site and an eBay shop

They were very helpful and their prices were pretty good.

I don't think the website company and eBay companies are actually the same entity.

www.cctvdirectuk.com mentions eBay shop at bottom of home page

You are correct, but the reputable company is cctvdirect.co.uk (not .com):

This is the company I assumed you ment in your original post. Didn't realise there were two companies with almost identical names!! Very confusing. CCTV Direct do seem to have a better website and more options. Not sure who is the best one though. Would need to get advice from the CCTV experts on here for that opinion.

Just for clarity I've sent an enquiry to this one:-

Any opinions on these two companies??

CCTV Direct and CCTV Direct UK ??

Any company selling Swann is offering low end, low quality equipment. You get what you pay for, that is all I will say.

And why does a company try to imitate a well respected company's name? Enough said!

Hi

Been looking at these DVR's, any advice would be appreciated. The HD Venom Alpha 8 claims to have better picture quality is this correct or is D1 better??

What would you recommend for a good home system?

Thanks
