Looking to have a 5 camera system installed and know where cameras are going. Installer is happy for me to run all cables to save on costs.

However, not sure where to place control recorder.

Ideally this would go near the TV and router, but concern is that if property is burgled, they could easily find the recorder, and if they nick it, it defeats the object.

Engineer has suggested placing it in the loft (bungalow) with two cables running to the TV and router. This means we would only have a fixed picture on the TV as would not be able to control the recorder as it is in the loft, but could view the cameras on IPads phones, etc.

What are the views of other on where to place the recorder? Am I being over cautious not having it near the TV? Any issues with it in the loft?

Thanks

Lofts get hot. Not great for electrical kit. It will die early.

Stick it in a cupboard somewhere. You can even get steel enclosures you bolt to the wall, floor or ceiling.

Or drop down 2 x 5m usb leads one for mouse and one for memory stick. You can now control it via the mouse..
