I have an Ideal E Type 100000BTU boiler with a indirect system ie expansion tank and cylinder etc. Was installed in 1980. Recent hot water cylinder and cylinder stat. Grundfos pump. Room stat and TVRs on all rads.
Live in 5 bedroom semi with 16 rads.
My plumber called today. After he cleaned the burners and put them back the boiler started to bang on turning it on only. gas jumping across the burners. He says nothing I can do must replace boiler!!
Is he right. System seems to work OK. But on coming on sometimes makes a loud popping sound instead of a quiet thud. Boiler seems to burn with a nice blue but wide flame.
Any suggestions please?
