having moved into a new house looking to replace front PVC door lock, which looks like eurocylinder type. Current one appears to be CES make.

1) Any recommendation as to where to buy and which brand to buy? only website i know, apart from B&Q / wickes is euro-lock.co.uk. any thoughts.....

2) also i have heard eurocylinders are not strong enough for thieves. i know thieves can get in any home unless its very highly secured. is it something to worry about?

3) what are my alternatives? mortice deadlocks are more secure i think but i think i can not just replace existing lock wihtout changing PVC door. am i right?

I also saw some protective handles/escutcheon plates in the Ironmongery Direct catalogue which look as if they stop you getting hold of the end of a Eurocylinder to prevent snapping. They look like they have a captive rotating washer with a key slot in it as well, have seen similar on some BS nightlatches. It looks like it has some of the protection of a LockGuard though it may be made of light alloy rather than steel.

Personally I like the ERA version multipoint with a 5-lever lock inside, but I am old-fashioned.

BTW I am impressed to see that Avocet seem to be moving upmarket into more serious products, and even more pleased that the industry is gearing up to face the problem of those pathetic Eurocylinders.

edit
these are the things I meant

You have many options!

Firstly the cylinder. if you don't know who has keys, then obviously they need to be changed. get one with a kitemark BS EN 1303: 2005

Anti bump, snap & drill cylinders all offer useful upgrades from attack. my preferred method would be to change the handles as well. These are a visible deterrent and also protect the door more from physical attack. Lock snapping is a real problem in certain parts of the country, notably west Yorkshire. bumping, picking or drilling take more skill and are much less likely methods off attack.
