Hi all,

We have moved into a house and I got the chimney swept.

The chimney sweep said that it needed to be lined at a cost of £1000 and he couldn't do it till after Christmas.

I got someone else in and they said they would do it but it would not need doing!

I bought some smoke pellets from the DIY shop and no smoke escapes into the house or the loft. However I did see a small amount coming out of what looked to be next doors loft space. I.e. it was coming out through her roof tiles.

I am now stuck with a decision. What are the dangers of lighting a fire without the lining?

Many thanks,

Chris

Hell if there's smoke appearing in next doors loft. then please don't light your fire
Somewhere along the line, your chimney integrity has been compromised and most certainly needs a liner.
John :)
