We are thinking of having the chimney removed in one of the bedrooms to make way for a staircase straight into the loft. Potentially want to turn the loft into a fourth bedroom.

What would be involved in doing this and if the chimney was removed in the bedroom would this mean evrything above it would also neeed removing or can sufficient support be put into place?

Will I also requires planning permssion?

Would it not be beneficial to remove the whole chimney and gain space in the new loft room also?

There is likely to be considerable design work involved in a lofty. i.e. stairs, floor joists, roof lights or dormers, insulation etc etc, so your architect or designer will advise regards structural and regulations issues.

Planning may be needed building regulations will definitely be needed.
