Building control have been informed. Someone always seems to mention it so thought I would get it out of the way.
I want to open a new 900mm doorway into my living room and brick up the existing door. The wall is internal load bearing single skin 100mm. The wall above where I want the opening continues straight to the loft but doesn't support any roof joists. However there will be 2 joists on the floor above resting central to where I want the opening right in the middle of where the lintel will be. 1 from the box room and 1 from the main bedroom.
Would a standard 1200mm steel reinforced conrete lintel from wickes be good enough to do the job or do I need something stronger because of the load from the bricks and joists above?
