Can you fix a concrete post directly to your house/wall? I have read that it is advisable to use a wood post or a wall plate. I just wondered is it bad to attach a concrete post to your wall and why?

You don't need to. The advantage of concrete posts is that they don't go rotten and break off at ground level, leaving you the awful job of trying to repair your fence with great lumps of concrete buried in the ground.

You can fix a wooden post to the wall with coachscrews or studs, spacing it 150mm above the ground to avoid rainsplash, and it will last for many years. Preferably put a cap or piece of lead or plastic on the top to keep rain out of the end-grain.

Concrete posts are extremely heavy and screws might sag. If you try to bury the foot next to the wall, there may be foundations in the way. It is preferable not to drill them as this may encourage cracking.
