The Background: I intend to install a downstairs toilet under my stairs. To do this i'll obviously need to tap into the soil pipe. the upstairs toilet soil pipe (cast iron) runs down the wall right outside of where I intend to install the new lav.

My questions: Can I cut and attach a connector to a cast iron soil pipe?

What do I use to cut the cast iron?

If it is possible to cut does anybody know of a suitable connector (the sort with the extendable sleaves as I wont be able to lift the pipe at all as it's plumbed in at the top and sunk in the ground at the bottom)?.

Any other advice gratefully received?

Thanks.

Just my opinion only... , Never done it but I would think you'd probably have to use an angle grinder with a diamond cut disc.

Wouldn't want to cut the hole too big though :( It could get messy.

You can get a whole T in rubber. The ends rollback so you can drop it in then unroll the ends. You just need to cut a bit out of the pipe.. Angle grinder (no need for diamond, cast iron is quite soft), or recip saw, or even a hacksaw with a sandvik HSS coarse blade is fine.
