Hi,

I am planning on knocking my chimney breast out and fitting a cooker in it.

Do I need some kind of extractor or can I just let the steam/etc just go up the old chimney?

Its and electric cooker, the chimney used to have a gas boiler/fire in it so it has some kind of liner.

Why not just try it as it comes but make your opening high enough to add a cooker hood later if you need one? You might find you are losing heat from the room up the chimney when not cooking. An alternative would be to have some means of closing or partially closing the flue and opening it when cooking.
