Hi,
I've been starting to lay floors and was about to cut out this threshold when I noticed that that would leave the ends of the partition unsupported.
Should I devise some form of support or does the double sole plate suffice?.
The partition supports the upstairs joists.

By the looks of it you will cut the timber where the opening is just short of the joist below and thus unsupporting that double stud..
I would infill the area between joists below the double stud to transfer any load into the wall below.
OR replace the double stud with two new longer ones that span down onto the wall plate below the joists..

Thanks, I'll go along with that. :D

I sometimes think I'm over-engineering on this project, but after all it is our house and I only want to do things once, not have them fall apart a year down the line. :(

Cheers.
