I'm planning on installing some decking in an area of 6m by 3m.

Going to use Joists 150mm x 47mm which are 3M long to run every 40MM.

Going to use 100mm x 100mm posts for footings. How many should I use?

Hey, do you mean 9 Joists to act as Bearers on top of the posts? Then 15 more Joists on top of the bearers spaced out @ 40MM. If that is so, could I have the Joists at the bearer level to cut down on cost ?

If not, could I use 150mm x 47mm as Bearers, then what minimum size Joists could I use on top ? I I don't want to over or under engineer it ! I

It will look a bit like this:

6m

100 x 100mm posts concreted into the ground, then fix your joists (bolted) to the posts, then cut posts flush to top of joists and lay the decking.
