Hi,

I believe my door bell transformer has broken, according to my electrician. I went to buy a new one and see they do 1 amp but also 0.5 amp. Is it correct to think it is the 1 amp I need? Any recommendations are welcome.

Thanks,
Darren

depends on the door bell.

its not the current that maters* (Amps) its the voltage, that said most have various tappings for differnt voltages

* within reason

eg. you have a 12v door bell, you get a trandformer with a voltage of 9v max, door bell isnt going to work

If the tran is not far from the bell, ( including the button wiring) usually 0.5 amp will do, if it is very far away ,or more than one bell, you may need the 1 amp.

0.5 amp is usually adequate for domestic use.

As you know the voltage must be suitable for the type of bell.

Friedland are quite popular, they do 0.5 amp and a 1 amp.

Also a 8volt and a 12volt.
