When starting a soil pipe from the pipe a ground worker brings up. Is it best to use a double ended socket. Or a single ended on, one end being glued?

Use a double ended socket (with lubricant) and check that there are no snags or burrs on the connection.

Hi would it be better to use something like this as I believe the narrow end fits inside the pipe so theres a continuous flow downstream without the chance of flow between the socket and the pipe which is only held back by the rubber seal, that is water doesn't run up hill.

You believe wrong. The "narrow" end fits over a standard soil pipe and is glued into place

Easier to make a watertight seal on plastic pipework & more flexibility if there's ever a need to do any future work on the stack.
