We've built an new kitchen extension and need to dry line it. Using 8x4 boards should we put the boards upright floor to ceiling or sideways and have a brick pattern? Any pros and cons of both? Its a 24ft by 12ft kitchen.

Fixing the boards vertically is standard practice; if you don’t have access problems & the ceiling is below 2.4m I can’t see any practical benefit in fixing boards on their side. Having a horizontal join across the room on the centre noggin rather than just a series vertical ones every other stud may be less desirable for skimming but admit that on odd occasions where I’ve done this, it hasn’t been a problem.
