Hope this makes sense, but we have had a Sony DAV-S300 DVD and surround sound amp built in..

We use the speakers supplied (well two for standard stereo) in the room. This DVD was from 2000 and its dying slowly, DVD's not playing and it won't touch some CD's and CDR's which is annoying

So after 13 years, we would like to replace it.

However does anyone know what the flat 2 prong sockets that the Surround Speakers connect to are called as we would like to buy an uptodate model with the same sockets so we can still use our living room speakers??

Here's a link to the picture of the rear, with the sockets coloured in the center :

Although they look like a simple 2 pin pronged plug it's not a standard AV connector. In other words it may well be either unique to Sony or something quite obscure.

However, that's not the end of your problems. Any replacement all-in-one system is going to come with its own speakers. You can't just but the main unit on its own. So those new speakers will be redundant if you use the Sony's. The other issue is Ohms. These all-in-ones use some very low impedance (Ohm) speakers in order to make it look like they put out a lot of power. So you'll have to make sure the speakers from the new kit have the same rating to make a happy marriage. There's also questions about warranty too if using the wrong speakers.

Although all-in-ones offer tremendous value and take up very little space, they are a bit of a dead-end product. There's no upgrade path, and replacing bits isn't a viable option; the manufacturer wants you to junk the kit and start again.

If it's a question of the cables being buried in place than have a think about some cable surgery. That's not as difficult as you'd imagine.
