Put earths into metal back box. Then use a bit of green yellow earth wire from back box to your light switch.

On the switch you must earth the metal faceplate, and if possible the metal back box as well. If you don't have a short piece of wire to do both, make sure the faceplate is done until you can get a piece.

Same thing with the socket. Make sure the earth wires go to the socket earth terminal, and if possible a short piece of earth wire from the socket to the back box.

In short, taking the earth wire to the switch/socket faceplate is absolutely vital. The back box not so vital as it will be earthed when the faceplate is secured.

Best solution is to provide a piece of earth wire between faceplate and back box as well.

For the socket, the earths must go to the socket first, then a fly lead to the back box.

Better to do this with the light switch too, but often there are several earth conductors in the switch box so not so easy.
