Hi all

A friend of mine had a registered electrician start a total rewire, and did 1st fix, but won’t come back for 2nd fix and testing etc.

He is stuck as he needs this for his mortgage retention, and now will find it hard to get someone else to sign it off.

Can he submit a notice to the council to get them to test & inspect? He can complete the work if required as he was an ex-sparky, but hasn’t kept up with his exams as moved profession

Thanks all

Yes he can do that. The council will just sub the inspection out to a local firm, and they can tell your friend what they want to see.

An invoice or something from the firm that did the install should be acceptable for what's done so far, and if your friend has evidence of past training or qualifications, that will cover the remaining 2nd fix.

But there are people who will take this on and self certify. Just a case of phoning around. The regulations do allow for situations like this, despite what some sparks may think.
