Hi

I have asked my building contractor to repaint some columns for me and he has advised that the exisiting paint looks as if it is epoxy paint and has quoted me on the basis of an amershield undercoat and an amerlock gloss finish.

This is considerably more expensive than standard paints and I wondered if anyone could tell me why so and why this type of paint might be needed.

Many thanks

Epoxy paint it to protect the steel from weather corossion and yes it will be more expensive. You may be able to get cheaper products than those specified, but depends on size of posts and amount of paint needed.

Scary thing is Amerlock is a primer/epoxy paint 2in1 and Amerguard is the a topcoat, not the other way round as stated.

Thanks for that. If the amerlock is a 2in1 does that mean I even need 2 coats?

No, but adding the topcoat will make it alot more resistant and is prettier. If its just a washing line post i wouldnt worry, but if its a bridge support post for the M4 then you might consider the more durable option.
