Estimate for replacing a sink?

We have a brown sink. I think that says it all really.

So i'm wanting it replaced for a silver one & just wondering what sort of price i should be expecting for a plumber to come & do that. Old sink out, new sink in & whatever else along the way.

995mm-x-510mm is the measurements.

The current sink has a centre draining section with a tap at the rear - just the one spout.

We'd be looking at going like-for-like (just silver, NOT brown!)

While i'm on the topic of this ... a sink is a sink to me.

But i see they vary greatly in price so i guess to those 'in the know' there's a bit more to it than that.
Is there anything i should look out for? A specific brand i should look at getting? Anything to stay away from (this includes the taps)? Or just let the guy supply whatever & job done?

Thanks.

Labour would be around 120. Sinks and taps vary greatly in quality. You need to go and look at them to find one you like.

Better to buy one yourself of same size and similar tap.

And just get the plumber to fit it?

I can find plenty that i like the look of. Doesn't really mean that the quality of it is any good though. That's why i was wondering if there was a brand or anything else that i should look out for. I don't know what is good quality or bad quality really (unless it feels wafer thin & dints as i touch it).

Depends on your budget and wants. What kind of style do you want? Do you want to show off with the new fangled all singing all dancing tap that lights up and creates a pretty whirlpool in its glass chamber. That tap alone will set you back nigh on £800. Maybe put some pics up of things you like and a ball park budget that you have set aside and we can give you a bit more info. You can buy once and fit once or buy cheap and fit numerous times or anywhere in between.

B&Q were doing an offer last week, single drainer stainless steel, with tap and waste for £49. Mother in law picked one up, looks like I'm fitting it next week... Check the website, they seem to have some clearance deals on at the moment, Franke, Cooke and Lewis, at £30 upwards.

I know what you're saying.

Nope i'm not after anything fancy. A sink & taps. Just reasonable quality.

I'll have to post photos from B&Q website since that's the only place we've been to look, but they'll all be pretty much the same i guess.

Sink:

something like that really.

Silver
Bowl one end
drainer in middle
somewhere for the dishes & such to be put on the other end
job done

Tap:

Something similar to that really. My wife may disagree with some of them but that's pretty much the style - silver, bendy head bit, hot & cold individual controls.

Oh, budget. £400 the lot i would say. I don't know if that is being realistic for some fair quality or not.

OK, well have a look at Bristan stuff for brassware (taps) I might be slightly biased, and only slightly, as I used to live 5 minutes away from their distribution centre and knew a few people that worked there and could always get spares easily and no argument on warranty stuff. Have always been looked after so can only go from what I find and a good mid range tap. Look around the £65 to £100 range and can't go wrong. As for sinks then forget cheap screwfix stuff as it is paper thin and is a bugger to fit straight. A mid range franke sink will cost you about £80 to £140 and will be worth the extra.

With regards to labour, wastes, and extras then I think your £400 could be achieved with a bit of balance here and there. Get yourself a guy that will come out and see what you need, talk it through with you and come up with the solution that meets your needs.

If you put on here your rough location then there may be one of us that could help you out or recommend someone to you.

Thanks for the advice.

Yeah that's what i'm bothered about really with the sink.

A little off topic, but we bought a cheapy pan one weekend when we were having pancakes as we had no pan for them. Like i said, it was CHEAP.

Stuck it on the hob & the bloody thing started making all sorts of noises & it wouldn't sit level at all. It was like it was being pushed in from underneath. Really poor. I didn't expect anything amazing but i thought i'd get better than that.

I'm weary of making an error like that with the sink, hence why i decided to come & see those in the know here :)

Something that shouldn't be overlooked is the worktop cutout, just ensure the new sink is bigger than the existing.

Our local B&Q had sinks on offer too. Most of the Franke range are OK
