We're going to be pouring a concrete slab for a garage base. Size of the slab within the 9inch blockwork retaining walls will be around 4700mm by 5700mm. Is this the sort of size where I should consider putting in an expansion joint? I've not poured a slab this large before.

Cheers,

James

My garage is almost 10m long and it doesn't have an expansion joint, and has not cracked yet. (About two years old). There was also not one specified on the architect's drawings.

Mine is 8m X 5m and no expansion joint, but there is mesh embedded in the concrete.
