Hi folks,

First post and just after advice if possible.

Having an extension/conservatory built.

The base is concrete and inside the concrete base the builder has put the polystyrene looking insulation blocks within the concrete base.

I'm planning to put electric mat type insulation down and 10mm floor tiles on that.

Even though the concrete base has that insulation in it do I still need to look at insulation boards on top (I could get away with 6mm as I've got to keep it relatively level with existing floor).

Or could I get away with the thermal primer type stuff.

I know the more the better but wondering how necessary and also if financially worth it.

The UFH isn't going to be my primary heat source as I'm having a radiator in there too.

Thanks

Rich

The purpose of the insulation immediately below the UFH is to prevent the heating of the floor mass.
Some prefer to heat the floor mass as a heat store. Others prefer not to.

You takes your choice, if you have a choice.

If I was using electric UFH, I wouldn't use the floor mass as a heat store.
If it was wet UFH, and the only source of heat, I might.
