Hiya people I'm in the process of buying a cottage surveyors report has come back showing signs of damp in kitchen and living room

Surveyor has recommended tanking the kitchen

The Walls on the cottage are part brick and construction and are 19.5 inches thick external

I am thinking about digging around the building footprint maybe a metre down ?
Black jacking the wall adding polystyrene insulation and toying with the idea of a French drain to a water harvesting tank

Can anyone advise?
I know it seems a lot of work but could it be rewarding in some way

Cheers Lee

Improving the situation externally is a good idea, but in addition to tanking? That needs some thought.

The issue may be forced upon you if you are having a mortgage and the tanking works are listed as a requirement to be carried out.

Why not try and contact the surveyor to see what he thinks, after all, he has the benefit of having seen the property.
