ok so, i have at the moment a single story lean to, which is a bit chilly at times. its currently made up of single skin, with plaster and plastboard on battens.

what i want to do is externally add battens and clad over the render. (see detail) since i am doing this i would like to add some external insulation, im either thinking 50mm cavity type mineral wool, or some sort of insulation board.. would there be a risk of condensation?

i dont want to rip off internally as the wall will be tiled over (and im on a budget!)

suggestions??

After making sure that you have sufficient depth insulation in the ceiling, and that doors and windows are well sealed you could call Celotex or similar and give them all your info. These companies can advise DIY or refer you to one of their "specialist's" for a survey.

Typically, external insulation calls for a final coat of render.

Any existing damp in the floor or walls must be taken care of before doing what you propose.

How will the new external thickness end up at the fascia/eaves?

Some council's used to give grants for this.
