Hello all,

Is it acceptable to spur off a ring main feeding a small kitchette area with a 13A switched FCU in order to supply a small 2 zone hob. The maximum demand of the hob is 2.9kw total (1~12.5 amps) and the demand for the ring in reality is small. The FCU being located above a small worktop area and used as a means of isolation of the hob.

Alternatively, would it be acceptable to fit a plug to the hob flex and plug into a spare socket on the existing ring?

The kitchenette is not a permenant fixture as there is a _proper_ kitchen, it is providing a small cooking facility for an inlaw.

I can't see any reason why this is not ok but would appreciate some confirmation or correction as it's slightly against the normal convention.

Thanks

Don't see any problem with feeding it from an FCU on the ring circuit, providing the ring is not already loaded upto the hilt.

IMO an FCU would be better than a plug and socket arrangement.

thanks RF for speedy confimation - I agree with you regarding FCU and it will also be quite easily removed when there is no further need for it.

will this kitchenette have an oven as well as a hob?

is it located near the center of the ring or towards one end?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay, been out of tinternet access - there is no oven in this arrangement - it's purely provides a small cooking facitlity heating, cooking using pans only.

With regard to being in the centre of the ring - it's probably skewed slighly from centre but not so bad - it isn't at the end of the ring.
