Hi all,

Can someone tell me the rough width/size of a hole in the ceiling before its deemed too big for filler? Basically my ceiling is scattered with holes probably between 10mm and 20mm and before I go cutting out larger holes to then patch up with plasterboard, would that be a waste of time. Will the filler sit nicely in these size holes?

Thanks as always

Regards

Should be ok, larger holes will need a bit of plaster board, wood, or similar to stuff in to the hole.

I tend to use a quick dry caulk to shrink the hole pre filling

Any packing should be a few mm inside the hole to allow for a decent filler top coat.

Most water base filler will be suitable, the more you use the more it will shrink back. So dont expect to be able to sand and paint after only one filler pass.

I'd be happy to fill a 20mm hole with something like Red Devil. It will need to wait until the next day before you can sand it though.
