Fire Door

Have been asked to do a few jobs at a local care home. One of the jobs was to fit a 30 minute fire door with smoke seals etc. Have turned this down as I believe this needs to be left to a specialist in order to meet building regulations and their insurance requirements.

However, yesterday I visited the property to look at the other jobs to see what if any materials I would need.

It turns out that the door they want replacing with a fire door is the door from the kitchen to the outside of the property.

Does a final exit door really need to be a fire door?

Only if its immediately adjacent to the (external) route of a fire escape ie people escaping from the building in the event of a fire would need to pass in front of that door (outside) in order to escape. Occasionally prescribed fire escape routes, once you get outside the building, take you past external doors and windows, if there were a fire inside behind said doors and windows these doors and windows would need to be fire resistant to protect the escape route.
