Firedoors and building regs...

My friend wants to replace his kitchen door which is on the landing opposite the top of the stairs. His flat is on the top half of a converted terraced house and all the other doors in his half of house are fire rated doors. Is he required to have fire doors in this property?
Would seem strange as most 2up 2downs don't need them.

if the existing are fire doors then they should be replaced with similar rated fire doors. They are fire doors for a reason and if you dont understand the reason for them inthis situation then you should consult someone who does.

It often depends on the layout of the rooms, travel distances, siting of the kitchen etc...a host of factors could influence the need for fire doors
