After reading many comments on here I have been trying different web browsers.

My final two to choose from were Safari and Firefox.

Couldn't find how to turn off the 'clear type' in Safari, so went for Firefox.

Can't believe how much faster it is than IE7, but think Safari was slightly faster.

Once I get it customised to my liking I think I'll stay with it.
