..Gerry has discovered that there are powerful interest groups involved in running the organisation. Surgeons and anaesthetists in the operating theatres and clinical consultants in the paediatric department seem to be pitted against the managers when it comes to attempts to implement change. Initially members of these powerful groups seem keen to protect their own interests and defend the status quo...

Interview with Gerry Robinson

Eye opener or did we not know all along... ?

Did you watch it? When they showed that knee operation with all the banging and knocking I was nearly sick.

Didn't see it but I wish I had...

How about this for a NHS scenario:

1. Person experiences repeated instances of allergic reaction including mouth, throat swelling up - cause unknown.
2. Visit GP who says 'you need to see a specialist'
3. GP refers you to a specialist / consultant
4. Letter received from consultants which says (in essence) 'Government targets say we have to see you within 13 weeks however since the waiting list is longer than that we won't accept you and therefore we won't see you at all'

So the upshot of all of this is that somebody I know is experiencing very worrying symptoms which can result in difficulty breathing but the NHS will not deal with the situation. The GP is unable to help further and so private medicine is suggested as the next option.

Something seriously wrong here and a government which is fixated on targets and quotas really needs its psychiatric treatment... unfortunately the waiting list is probably too long
