Hi,

I am planning a loft conversion and it is to hang my new floor onto it ;)

Its says to bolt it to the beam with M12 bolts ;)

Well nevermind that old rubbish.

I would say the best way to fix timber to steel, and I always follow this route..... is to bolt it to the beam using M12 bolts.

So do you need more info, or were you doubting the advice on the plans?

I'm assuming that this will be fixed to the web, in order to fix the floor joists to it at right angles?

...or is it a flitched beam? (timber sandwich)

Has the designer properly detailed the method of hanging the floor off the beam or is it just a vague 1:100 drawing and you have to guess?

Put the timber in the web (it should fill the web) and drill some 10mm holes along the centre axis every 1m. Fix with some m10 bolts and large washers.

Then fix some long legged hangers to go up the timber and over the beam

I don't know why he has specified m12 bolts, they are not doing much.
