Hi

My ford escort 1995 has been running fine in the cold weather. However yesterday i didnt drive the car. Last time i drove it was saturday afternoon and it was fine. Tried to start the car this morning and nothing! The engine does not turn over at all, doesnt even try.

I can get power to the heater fans, the radio works fine, lights come on etc. However when i actually start the car, nothing happens.

Its been about -8 today in coventry and overnight. Is it simply a case of the engine/starter motor having frozen?

If all electrics are working apart from the starter.

Probably a bad connection from the battery to the starter motor. Check the red lead from the + terminal on the battery to the motor (the big one). Make sure its not dirty/corroded around the battery terminal. Also check the other connection on the battery (-).

If the starter is easy to get at tip it with a heavy object. As you say it may be stuck with the frost.

Next time you try, listen for a sharp click when you turn the key.
This usually lets us know about the battery condition.
John :)
