Hi
No the cable as not broken but the quadrant has.
Would you remove the whole section or drive out the shaft?
All the bits on this shaft are not in the same order as in the Haynes manual. what is right.
This is a 51reg escort van.

Cheers

I had the same or similar problem when i had one.
The bushes on the pin had moved out of place, and it had elongated the hole that they sit in.
The ratchet used to move sideways, and the whole lot would go straight down. Might be worh a check of the holes, especially if you thingk the bushes and spacers are in the wrong order.
I bought a new pedal box from scrapyard, came with brake and clutch pedals.

Its a pain in the ar5e job, upside down bent double to see what you are doing.

I had this happen on a Fiesta years ago. I am unable to recall each and every component, but am I correct in thinking that the curved part of the quadrant is splined? If so, it is these splines that provide the self-adjusting mechanism for the clutch. Make sure you draw a diagram of the various components. Maybe you can follow the instructions in the Haynes manual re its disassembly despite your concerns as to the detail. I certainly did not remove the shaft but perhaps this is necessary with an Escort. Once you have the defective quadrant free take it to a Ford dealer and ask if they will show you the exploded diagram of the clutch pedal assembly. I wonder if it is possible that the Haynes depiction is wrong? As Hitachimaid says the jobs a bit of a b*gger as you have your ankles round the headrest, your @rse up the squab and your head under the pedals. Good luck in anycase. ;)

Hi
Thanks everyone.
The quadrant had snapped and pulled itself of the rod.
Ford and the Haynes manual both use identical drawings, fine if you do it day in day out but not for me.
It took about 4hrs but I recon 2 now.
The quadrant that broke was a patent part and I could see why you pay slightly more for genuine.
