Hi all.I have a 1998 ford escort 1.6lx(zetec engine).When cold starting the idle can be erratic and the revs will race ahead at the slightest twitch on the accelerator.the revs will hold before the car starts to hunt to return revs to normal.ny help would be greatly appreciated.

Never done one on a zetec, but they're on the inlet manifold on a Ka............ and a pig to get to
I have the exact same problem with my 98 escort as Leachy,
I tried changing a valve which is attached to the inlet manifold with no sucsess.
Anyone know where this coolant temp sender might be.
btw, that valve i changed had to be done by my 14 year old son as his hand and wrists were small enough to get access.
hy, leachy/ i had same problem with my 1995 escort 1600cc zetec petrol injection, only it did it when it was hot as well as cold ./ [ revs had a mind of there own ]
i was advised on here to clean out the idle control valve which some carb cleaner or brake fluid, it has 3 small headed bolts holding it on with a gasket at back ,so a new one is neeeded .
but it is a slow job to get em undone as you can only get a quarter of a turn at a time on them, also you just unclip wire plug going into it [ left side ] i soaked mine overnight, it gets a load of black gunge in it over time / but once it was cleaned and refitted it ran ok and drops straight to 800 rpm tickover. hope this helps . regards. r.r.

The engine coolant sensor (ECT)is on the right hand side(looking from front)of the engine above the bellhousing.The one in the inlet manifold is the inlet air temp sensor (IAT) on this model.
