Hi,

I have a ford focus 1.6 Zetec petrol, mk1 2001. It has 112k on the clock.

I have an intermittent problem with the driver’s side braking system. Approximately once a week, when I reverse I get a grinding noise from the driver’s side wheel area. It sounds like the brake pad wear indicator, possibly can be something else. I have checked the pads (visual only) and can see the there is still enough pad left.

It does not make the notice when driving forward or when the brakes are applied, just occasionally when reversing.

What can be causing this intermittent problem?

TIA

There's a very god chance that the backplate - on the inboard side of the disc -is gently rubbing on the disc itself.
With the wheel off, spin the disc and push the backplate well clear.

Are you only visually checking the outer pad? The inner one may be worn down to the metal
