im having a disagreemnt with a fellow decorator regarding painting doorframes or windows. I say you should paint the back edge of the door frame or window frame only , if it opens outwards away from you . He say's you should always paint the back edge even if the door or window opens inwards . Who's right ??

Not entirely sure what you mean by 'back edge'.

Are you talking about the section of the frame where the hinges are, which older painters will paint if say the door opened outwards?

When you say frame, I assume you mean the frame of the actual door/window rather than it's surround. If so, you should paint the hinged edge only, on a door opening away from you, and the latch edge only, if it opens towards you.

At least that is the way I was taught!

Apologies if I have got hold of the wrong end of the paintbrush.
