Garden levelling - dig down or build up?

Not sure if you read Ellal's post, but to me that makes the most sense.

If you level up you need to buy loads of top soil.
If you level down you need a few skips.

I've not seen the picture (blocked at work) but if the turf is in good condition strip it off and roll it up on both sides. Mark the center.
Dig the high ground and put it on the low ground, flattern it out and put the turf back down. Takes just as much time as the other two but without the expense.

If the grass is not very good, then just do as above but throw the grass on the low ground and load the soil on top of it.

Are you saying if I dig down it might water log?

Not necessarily, but if you look at what the water does now, you will have to deal with that amount of water when you have leveled it. You could either have a puddle, or end up creating a waterfall for your down hill neighbour. You may need one, or possibly two retaining walls.
