I would like to build some rectangular wooden planters, probably 1-2m in length, 40cm width.

I was thinking about using garden decking boards to construct the sides. Any opinions please?

If you put a waterproof liner (like a plastic tub) inside, so the wood is not in contact with the damp soil/compost, it will last much better.

Thanks. These would be outdoors in all weathers so presumably I would need to treat the boards with Decking Seal or similar?

if you do use decking boards, use screws and not nails to secure them as the weight of the soil will push them out. Also if they are any length put upright supports in at 400 centres at least.
