Been looking at getting conservation skylight to replace an older style one that is single glazed with a couple of bars down it.

Had a few roofers in to get quotes and one actually recommended getting a standard velux style window which is cheaper and then add a glazing bar which doesn’t cost much.

Anything we should be aware of if installing a glazing bar? Any potential issues? Does it look just as good?

With a conservation skylight is just a single piece of glass with a bar down the middle on the outside, so in a sense basically the same as a glazing bar?

A ‘conservation rooflight’ is a much lower profile than a standard rooflight, so it sits pretty much flush with the tiles/slates rather than poking out above. You can get conservation rooflights without the bars.

You can also get standard rooflights and stick a glazing bar on but adding a glazing bar does not then make them ‘conservation rooflights’.

So you need to be clear as to what you want.

Not bothered to be honest with it poking out a bit, the current window does that and also due to the position of the house we can't see the window from the front or back of the house so never really see it.

It's more what it looks like on the inside that matters to us.
