I have checked out all the relevant safety aspects regarding connection for the above before proceeding with the purchase. It is only a simple single oven with a maximum of 2.8Kw.

A switched fused connection will be used to replace the previous 13amp socket, but on unpacking the appliance I find it has a grounding point on top of the cooker casing, this is in addition to the usual earth terminal at the wiring point.

What is the usual way to also Earth at the top of the casing ?

That will probably be a terminal for supplementary bonding. Unless you are in the throws of designing a commercial kitchen and supp. bond is required then you can ignore it.

The oven will be earthed via the mains flex.

You only mention the "wiring point" not the cable. Is there a cable connected to the oven? If not then it should be hard wired to a cooker/oven connection unit. Using 4.00mm t&e.

It's a 2.8kW load.

Why would you not connect it to a 13A FCU using 1.5mm² flex?

It's unlikely that the MI doesn't specify 13A fuse protection.
