Hi All,
I wonder if you can help me here.
I have a Potterton Promax HE Boiler, which decided to break down 10 days ago. Basically it won’t start and when I rest it using the reset button on the boiler itself … it tried to start and I can hear the spark for 3 or 4 times and then it gives up and never start or respond to the main room thermostat !

A boiler engineer visited and the following were replaced:
Burner
Condensate trap
Fan
Door seal

The engineer then left with the boiler on and working, however after about 45 minutes it decided to stop again even the temp set on the thermostat was not reached  and back to the same fault again on reset it sparks for 3 or 4 times and then give up and never start again.

3 days later the engineer came back and the following were replaced:
Solenoid Gas Valve
2 PCBs inside the boiler

The engineer then left with the boiler on and working, however after about 45 minutes it decided to stop again even the temp set on the thermostat was not reached  and done the same fault again on reset it sparks for 3 or 4 times and then give up and never start again. However this time it started 1 more time on reset with a very loud and serious explosive ignition!! And again ~45 minutes later it stopped and never back again.

Please can anyone advise what is wrong with the boiler and what should be replaced?
As you can see almost all part have been replaced and I am still having the same original problem in addition to the explosive ignition !!

The engineer is back in today and I want to make sure that he puts it right this time. Its 10 days now with no heating or hot water ... real struggle in this weather specifically when you got kids.

Appreciate you help ... thanks

These are terrible boilers at the best of times. Although not yet fixed your fault fully Im quite confident at least 75% of those parts were infact needed (most will need done in a year or two again due to the reliability)

While theres a strict No DIY advice on gas on the forum (I know you say a RGI has been working it but we dont know that) Let him do his job, but insist after he "repairs" the fault that he wait till it runs through a full heating cycle with out it cutting off

Did he check/clean the electrodes ?
