help with wiring headlight washer pump

hi there
i have fitted headlight washer to my astra vxr 2006 and and used a switch mounted on the dash to activate, however i am doing something wrong with the wiring, i have a wire coming from the pump to the switch and then from the other side of the pump to a live from the ciggy lighter and then back to the switch, i am doing something wrong as it does not activate, the pump works if you touch it directly to the battery, the switch only has two terminals
i am at a loss to know how to make it work

Take the battery live to the switch, and from the other switch terminal to the pump. Earth the other pump connection and all will be well!
