Hemp or PTFE?

Hi,

Got an outside tap that leaks up through the spindle when tap is opened. It's full of hemp (I guess) and gunge. Is it possible to still get hemp, or is PTFE used these days? Similar problem to a gatevalve in my airing cupboard, had to get a plumber on that for a number of reasons but would like to be able to sort it out myself next time (and there WILL be a next time!!)

What's the best thing for packing these valves out?

PTFE works OK, better yet is the one-wrap gas tape - yellow cover.

Loctite 55 String, you need 2-3 turns and push it in tight.
