Honeywell Diverter Valve

I have a Worcester Bosch Heatslave 15/19 combination boiler and I have just changed the Synchron motor as it had packed in. Before I fit the power head/actuator back to the diverter valve body I want to know what stops the synchron motor from turning, as mine will just keep running if I plug it in when not fitted to the valve body.
