My HW comes on no problem but my CH only comes on for a few minutes then turns off. I've checked the stat and all is good there, so I'm thinking its the valve and its sticking.?

The motor in the valve seems to work as when I turn the HW off from the programmer I can see the valve (cogs and all) moving.

When I try and move the manual lever either from manual to auto or vice-versa there is no resistance at all. (I'm sure there should be resistance one way at least?).

So is my thinking correct that the valve is likely to be sticking? and if so can it be unstuck? or does it need to be replaced?

I've uploaded a picture of the Valve and the back plate showing the model for reference.

Your motor is running full travel, which is the central heating only position. Possibly the end switch has failed or there is a wiring error. You may need to select both hot water aand central heating on for this to work.

Look in FAQs.

Thanks Mysteryman. No matter if I program CH or HW on or both on from the programmer I do not get CH working for longer than a few minutes.

I'm not sure what an "end switch" is?

We going to be replacing the programmer and the stat soon anyway, but wanted to first get CH working first?

Could the valve need replacing? Why is there no resistance on the motor?

yes the case for the actuator case has a small bump.

Can the actuator be removed without having to drain down system etc. Is it easy to do (and then check the valve spindle and WD40 it)?

thanks.
