I have an age old problem, and any advise would be gladly taken.

I have an old thermostat that has given up the ghost, so it needs replacing, I took the old one off and looked in side and have three wire under the old colours, red, blue, and yellow(might be yellow and green but its dirty so cant tell)

My question is this, looking at the new thermostat (Honeywell T6360) it has various terminals for the wires to be fitted in but am unsure(being a nebie to the electrical world) as to how it should be wired up.

I will be honest in saying that I dont really understand thew wiring diagram that came with the new one.

Can any one tell me?

Thanx

AFAIK terminal 1 is the live, 2 is neutral and 3 will be the switched live.
There should be 4 cores to the cable, the fourth being the earth but it not unknown for the earth to be used as s/l when there are only 3-core, so beware!
Best to check which wire is which at the other end in the junction box, if you are fortunate enought to have a 10-way junction box.
you will need a multimeter to do this and know how to use it for continuity testing. I.e. with power switched off.
