Have researched as much as I can & come here to get confirmation (hopefully) of my diagnosis.

Have a standard S plan system.

The pump is permanently running unless the boiler (glow worm fuelsaver f) is disconnected from the mains. Also the timer (potterton 2000) has no effect on switching the boiler on & off.

Plumbing isn't my strong point, can change a tap washer & that's about it. However, wiring I'm not too bad at.

The problem seems to be the orange wire from the hot water honeywell valve. It's permanently live until the mains is disconnected from the whole system.
I'm assuming this should be switched & not permanently live.
I got a wiring diagram from http://wiki.diyfaq.org.uk/images/0/0d/S-Plan-Wiring.gif which was very useful.

I know a plumber who's great with pipework & basic electrical stuff, but he's out of his depth with this 1. I'm hoping with a bit of help from you guys, I can sort out the fault finding & he can do the rest.

Best regards Sean

sounds like you've got a stuck micro switch in the valve.
if the lever on the end has resistance on it when you push it across then the valve has closed and the m/switch has stuck on.
the m/switch is fed perm live from the grey wire.

Just change the head, unless the valve is more than about 25 years old.
