Hi all, I have a hoover 6166 washing machine, it would not drain so I assumed it was the filter. After manually emptying and removing, cleaning and replacing filter the machine ran through a cycle and emptied. That's the good news, the bad news was that there is a leak at the rear of the machine.

Water squirts out of what I assume to be a breather hole. There are 3 holes in a circle recess, behind which I think is a pulley.

I will be removing and cleaning outlet pipe to see if this helps.

Has anyone any experience with a similar fault? Is it repairable?

Thanks.

Did you find anything in the filter, such as a nail? It could be that a sharp object has punctured the tub. There would not be any breather holes low down but there may be blanked off holes that are only needed on certain models but not yours. If it is just a small round hole you can sometimes get away with a suitable short self tapping screw and a rubber washer.

Hi, there was debris in the outlet pipe before the pump. A bra wire and a chunk of plastic that has obviously broken of the inside of the machine, the chunk is the same colour as the drum, look like it could be part of a blade.

Thanks for your reply.

The bra wire could have broken the piece off and also punctured the tub. If the tub is cracked it may be possible to do a weld repair using a soldering iron. The broken bit might be useful as filler material when doing such a weld.
