Hello all,

A couple of years ago I installed an (expensive) solid oak (French) half glazed back door in my house in France. I have had nothing but trouble with the door and now intend to replace it with a quality door from the UK.

The issues are (1) the door frame has to be set into an old old oak barn door frame. This is very heavy (around 6" x 4"), several hundred years old and, although stable, must move a little with the seasons. (2) the door is in full sun all day every day with summer air temperaturs of 35C not uncommon.

My question is what type of door should I go for: solid oak or other hardwood, uPVC or composite?

Any comments gratefully received.

Out of all of the choices i would probaly choose composite. Less maintenance than all the others and upvc door is just rubbish
