Hi

Really hope someone can help with this.

Current setup is a cold water tank in the loft with hot water tank below it. Standard boiler is in the cellar. There is a pump on the shower for a power shower.

During the summer months we have no problems whatsoever with the thermostat set to heat the HW tank 3 times a day (morning, noon and night).

Now it's getting colder we have the central heating on and we get constant air locks in the hot water system. Holding the tap on a mixer and running cold water through the pipes removes the problem temporarily.

Anyone know the link between having the heating on and airlocks. Could the hot water tank heating the water too much and cause air to come out of the water?

Thanks in advance

If you have an indirect cylinder then there is no reason that having the heating on would cause an air lock in your hot water supply. Check your cold tank in the loft for correct filling when drawing water off. My suspicion would be your shower installation.

Thanks for replying. The hot water tank is full and when I remove the air lock everything is fine. Could the boiler not be heating the hot water tank too highly?

Seems strange that we only have the issue when we start using the boiler more and never have an issue for 6 months of the year.
